Trashy Luxury

 
Nicolas喜歡在壞品味中追求靈感，他說過，「Trash is a form of provocation」，通常被理解為low-end和被認為是奢侈品的東西，兩者碰撞所拼發的火花往往是意料之外的精采。02年春夏那條cargo pants，成為瘋魔全球的單品，那種洗水石磨的質感，靈感就是來自一隻叫做Hollywood Chewing Gum的香口膠。

Nicolas設計下的女性形象也是非常突破的，不是中性，他說過，喜歡帶有陽剛味道的女子，這種硬朗底下的性感與感性，需要去尋找及發現，比起炫耀身體線條更加有趣及吸引。這種意義底下的女性美，就如他的長期繆思法國女星Charlotte Gainsbourg所言，由最初發掘她中性的一面，慢慢將她從comfort zone拉出來，一步步接受一個更加女性化的自己，卻又絲毫沒有違背原本自身。這個過程由Nicolas親口道來更加傳神：「The Balenciaga approach to femininity is a boyish attitude, confidence, intelligence, a demand for quality, and an avant-gardism in the sense that you are courageous enough to look different.」
